Backend

The backend is connected to the frontend. Both describe the user's proximity to software, but can mean different things depending on the context. Basically, the backend is about programming a software or website, about handling the software itself that affects the developer. Translated from English, it simply means “back end.”

Frontend is differentiated by the fact that it affects the user of the software or website. Frontend is what the user should see from outside. Backend, on the other hand, is the interior, structure of the software or page that the user should not be aware of. The user who only sees the front end should normally not deal with programming. The user is only affected by the interface, the interior is intended for the developer. In the case of software, the backend means the programming that makes the frontend possible in the first place. The internal structure determines the interface of the software, the functions and the way of working.

In the IT sector, it is often the term for the client server and the application that is on the server. The server in general can also be referred to as backend networks, as can so-called backend networks, which connect several PCs together.

In web design and web development, the backend also refers to the administrative part of the website, which has an influence on the user, but in which he does not actively participate. The administration is done by the developer of the site. This also includes database applications, the software that maintains the database and the web applications for maintaining the content of the page. Finally, programming itself, which only the developer may have access to. With a CSM (content management system), on which many websites are based, the content is completely online. After all, every website inside is just code that gives the page a shape. Nevertheless, the internal area, administration and programming, is password protected and only accessible to the developer.

Even the user, even if he is not the developer of the site, has his own backend area. This includes the account for which he makes administrative settings himself. Email accounts, social media accounts, customer accounts for online shops, the customer area in electronic banking, the account in an online video game; these all belong to the backend area that is accessible to the user. Basically anything that belongs to a protected area with the help of a username and password. There are also multi-layered systems. Social media sites such as Facebook have an internal backend area for the user, while the interface of their profile, which is visible to others, represents the front end.

When creating websites, it is important today to make programming the backend as intuitive and easy as possible. Actually, when using WordPress, for example, you don't have to program today; users don't have to know HTML. Instead, applications, tools, and content can be maintained without programming knowledge.

The backend also concerns on-page optimization for SEO measures. Every search engine optimization on the site takes place in the backend. Whether it's maintaining content, inserting keywords, tags for search engines, creating a site map and internal linking. This is work on the backend.
